DUNLAP, Tenn. (AP) -- A mountaintop search in Sequatchie County following a report of a cry for help has been called off after three state troopers had to be rescued themselves.
Rescuers began searching the area of Smith Mountain in sleet and freezing rain after workers at a local rock yard reported hearing the sounds Tuesday afternoon.
Three state troopers on the search later had to be rescued by helicopter. One injured an ankle, while the other two suffered from symptoms of possible hypothermia.
Sheriff Ronnie Hitchcock says no one has been found in the area and the search has been called off.
