Two suspects nabbed in Nashville Good Samaritan slaying

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Two people are in custody in Jackson, Miss., in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man who tried to intervene in a purse snatching at a Nashville grocery store parking lot.

Robert Williams, 52, and Stephanie Hudson, 36, both ex-convicts, were taken into custody without incident Thursday at a house in Jackson.

They are suspects in Tuesday's slaying of 54-year-old Jerry McEwen of Nashville, a musician and Web page designer.

He was stabbed in the chest as he attempted to stop Williams, who had just taken a purse from a 60-year-old woman.

Police said Williams and Hudson fled in Hudson's vehicle.

Williams was paroled in May.
