KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) Three of the seven fatal crashes that occured over the holiday season happened on East Tennessee roadways.
According to the Tennessee Department of Safety, the time period from 6:00 p.m., Friday, December 21, 2007, to midnight Tuesday, November, 25, 2007 is designated as the holiday season.
The 2007 total represents two fewer fatals than last year, despite the fact that last year's period was a full day longer.
Of the seven crashes, two were single vehicle crashes, five were multiple vehicle crashes, and one motorcyclist was killed, according to troopers.
Alcohol was involved in one crash, which represents another decline from 2006.
Last year, a third of the fatalities during Christmas occurred in alcohol-related crashes.
The three holiday crashes in East Tennessee occured Friday night in Unicoi County, Saturday afternoon in Anderson County, and early Sunday morning in Greene County.
