CRESTON, Iowa (AP) -- Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson says there is no woman on the horizon who ought to be president next year.
Campaigning Wednesday in Iowa, he challenged potential caucus-goers to choose the best man to help fend off what he described as an assault by the Democratic Party.
Democrats, he said, are "just salivating" to lead the country into a welfare state.
Thompson, an actor and former U.S. senator from Tennessee, said the next president should be a man representing conservative principles and values.
He said that if elected, he would implement a flat income tax, save Social Security from bankruptcy, rebuild the military and stop illegal immigration.
