JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities say a car crossed the median on Interstate 40 in Henderson County and hit a tractor-trailer, killing four people.
The accident occurred about 4 p.m. Wednesday and backed up westbound traffic for miles.
Tennessee Highway Patrol says the car was heading eastbound when it crossed the median. Investigators have not determined why the vehicle went over the median.
All four people who died were in the same car, which had an out-of-state license plate. The names of the victims were not immediately released.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the accident, which redirected traffic for about five hours.
