Fort Campbell soldier accused of abusing stepson

JAMESTOWN, Tenn. (AP) -- A Fort Campbell soldier has been charged with aggravated child abuse in Fentress County. He's accused of severely beating his 3-year-old stepson on Christmas.

Sheriff Chuck Cravens says 21-year-old Sgt. Alfred Gene Bullock was visiting his wife's parents while on leave from the 101st Airborne.

The grandparents suspected Bullock was mistreating their grandson and hid a camcorder in the child's bedroom.

According to court documents, they recorded Bullock striking the child with a belt more than 25 times.

Cravens called the recording "very hard to listen to."

Bullock had a preliminary hearing Wednesday and the case was bound over to a grand jury next week.

He is in jail on a $50,000 bond.

The child is with his mother and grandparents.
