Jefferson County (WVLT) -- The baby that had a pacifier taped to his mouth at a Jefferson County daycare four months ago has died.

Deshawn Toner would have been eight months old later this week, but police in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania confirm that he passed away on New Year's Day.

According to the Philadelphia police department, they were called to the scene of an unresponsive child around 1:00 AM on December 30th.

Deshawn was taken to Saint Christopher's Hospital for Children in downtown Philadelphia where he passed away two days later, at 12:29 PM on New Year's Day.

Police said they do not have any evidence of foul play at this point, but an autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death.

In September, Deshawn was found in a dark bathroom with a pacifier taped to its mouth at Noah's Ark Nursery in Jefferson City.

That nursery lost its license following the incident.

Two employees of the nursery, Kim Ball and Angela Day, face criminal child abuse charges in that case.

This is sad news. I pray that there was no foul play in this situation. I hope the way Kim Ball and Angela Day treated this poor child sticks with them... I know that had nothing to do with his death but it makes me sick to think of how people can treat a child that cant do anything for himself.

I remember hearing about this story on your station a few months ago. Since we live near Jefferson City I was surprised to hear that something like this could happen to such a sweet, little innocent thing/baby! (I wonder if the two day care workers were just young and immature, but are they required to have certain training or certification?) This makes me feel so sad. PLEASE KEEP US INFORMED OF WHAT THE AUTOPSY FINDS. THANK YOU for covering this story.
