Florida man arrested in Blount Co. break-in

MARYVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- A Florida man's in jail in Blount County charged in connection with a home break-in on East Lamar Alexander Parkway Tuesday morning.

Lyle David Hayward, 38, of West Palm Beach, Florida, is being held on aggravated burglary and simple assault charges.

Blount Co. deputies say a homeowner returned home to find Hayward leaving his residence around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to spokesperson Marian O'Briant The two fought before Hayward feld.

Hayward was arrested while talking on a pay phone outside a business down the road.

O'Briant says Hayward has an extensive criminal background. He told police he was in town staying with friends.

Hayward is due in Blount County General Sessions Court at 9 a.m. January 14.
