Kentucky reports first mining death of 2008

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Officials say a truck driver in Kentucky was killed when his vehicle backed over a tipping point at a southeastern Kentucky mine and went down a slope.

Tuesday's mining death was first of the year.

The accident near Pikeville killed 29-year-old Roy Sturgill of Isom.

It happened about 12:45 a.m. at a mine operated by the Cumberland River Coal Company.
