Teens charged with murder after Bell Co. deputy, K9 killed in crash

Bell County, KY (WVLT) - A Bell County Sheriff's deputy and his K-9 are dead after an overnight high speed chase.

WKYT-TV in Lexington identifies the deputy who was killed as Sean Pursifull.

Deputies say the chase started when two juveniles drove off without paying for their gas at a gas station in Harlan county.

Deputies say the two teens moved through Bell County on US Highway 119.

Police say Deputy Pursiful was waiting for them along the road when the suspect's car rammed into his cruiser, killing him and his dog.

The two juveniles were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The teens have been charged with murder and assault on a service animal.

So what do you do? Just let them drive away without paying for the gas? This is a horrible tragedy but you cannot allow the criminals out there to do whatever they want without consequence. If they know they won't be chased there is no incentive to comply with the law. The blame isn't with the police, it is with the criminals. THEY make the choice to run. THEY make the choice, not the police. "A society that makes war with it's police had better learn to make friends with it's criminals." Rest in Peace Deputy Pursifull and King. Thanks for your service, it was not in vain.

I think it is a very bad shame for these 2 juvenile delinquents to have created this mess. Now a young officer and his dog lost their lives , a family man who was just trying to do his job and make a living. These young men should be charged with murder it is a senseless crime all they had to do was pay for their gas and it would not have led to all of that now they are not going to be able to enjoy their young years they are going to be behind bars where they belong so maybe they will not hurt anyone else

I hope this case finally makes us review our policies on when police should participate in a high speed chase. was the $20 dollars worth of gas worth police putting the public at risk chasing 2 kids at speeds over 100 miles an hour? most states do not allow high speed chases unless a felony is committed.

MY HEART JUST BREAKS FOR THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF THIS DEPUTY. HE WAS A FRIEND OF MY HUSBAND AND ONLY 1 YEAR OLDER. ITS A SHAME THAT HE WAS JUST DOING HIS JOB AND THESE 2 IGNORANT CARELESS TEENS DEPRIVED EVERYONE OF THIS PERSON AND HIS K-9 PARTNER. I HOPE THAT THE TEENS ARE CHARGED WITH MURDER AND HAVE TO FACE EVEERONE WHO KNEW AND CARED FOR DEPUTY PURSIFUL AND KING.
