KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Sevier County volunteer firefighter is asking a federal judge to give volunteer firefighters the same rights as paid emergency workers.
Lt. Michael Huskey was stopped and arrested by a state trooper as he sped to answer a call for help in January 2007.
His lawsuit asks that the Department of Safety require its employees to avoid interference with the duties of all Tennessee firefighters, fire departments and emergency communication districts -- regardless of whether those workers earn taxpayer money.
