Suspect again convicted, sentenced in killing a decade ago

NEWPORT, Tenn. (AP) -- A judge in Newport has sentenced a man to life in prison without parole in the killing of a woman whose body was found in a septic tank a decade ago.

The sentencing Wednesday came after a jury took less than 30 minutes to convict Joseph Maine of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Maines had been sentenced to prison on his guilty plea in 1998, but the conviction was overturned by an appellate court in 2005.

He entered a not guilty plea and stood trial in the killing of Ammy Lynn King, who prosecutors say was killed on her 21st birthday in 1997.

Two co-defendants are also serving prison terms in the killing.
