Widow, son need your help to finish their home

Union County (WVLT) -- An East Tennessee man was in the middle of building a dream home for his family when he was killed in an ATV accident.

Now his wife and stepson are now living in a run down trailer next to the frame of the partially built new house in Luttrell, and they could use your help.

For Dakota Runyon and Patricia Fisher, the wooden frame of the home means more than you can imagine...

Les Fisher started building it last summer with just one leg, the only one left after diabetes took the other.

He lost the other leg after fall bad fall while building the home.

"He was determined,” said Patricia, his wife. “He wasn't letting it stop him"

Amazingly, Lee continued to work on the house on his knees, until a tragic four-wheeler accident in October.

Patricia Fisher lost her husband, and her son Dakota lost a stepfather he called Dad.

"We still have a hard time,” she said. "Me and him stick together and do everything together and talk about his dad."

Patricia and Dakota, who is 11, have been living in a run-down trailer behind the unfinished house since, thinking of Lee with every glance at the frame.

"That was his main goal and dream, to get this house built," Patricia said.

"He'd want it to be done and have me and my mom live in it and not be in that trailer,” said Dakota.

The trailer is clearly not safe, the ceiling is coming down, it’s filled with mold and holes and cracks are just about everywhere you look.

"The whole trailer, you could just push and it wants to fall," Patricia said.

Dakota's room is so small, there is no room for a bed, only a love seat that he sleeps on.

"I usually sleep forward like I'm watching TV,” he said, “I'll try to fall asleep that way."

Patricia and her son need a new home, but they won't get it without a helping hand.

"I can't build it on my own cause I'm not in good health myself,” she said.

But you can help by lending your hands to the Fisher home.

Not sure how I got the call, but God knows. Ginger called my office and left a message. The company I work for owns furniture stores in the area and she was looking for help. I have shared this store with as many people as I know here in Atlanta and someway we will get help to East TN! If you are not giving, you are not living!

I just want to thank everyone again for helping my mom and brother, she truly deserves it. With her having lupus and loosing Les its taking a toll on her life and there is nothing that she deserves more than a nice clean place to live. In the last year I had grown close to Les and all he ever talked about was getting that house finished for my mom and brother because he loved them so much. It was his dream and I know my mom is sad because she is slowly watching his dream die and she doesnt want that. If it wasnt for Les my mom wouldnt be the person she is today and I thank him for that everyday. Since his death his friends have put forth the effort to get the house done but its so hard without the proper materials & time. Thats why help is needed. So with that said I want to thank the people again that have helped & to the people who want to help.. it would be greatly appreciated. Please remember that this was the dream of a great person who loved his family very much, as we loved him.

To the person says life insurance would have taken care of this situation. Wrong! People with known disabilities and illnesses cannot readily, if at all, get life insurance.

I have known Trish and Cody for forever. The man Cody called "DAD" and Trish called "MY HUSBAND" was the most determined man I will ever meet. Yes, it was Les. He would give you the shirt right off his back if you needed it whether it was 10 or 100 degrees. Now all of you out there that read my post needs to think, what if this was you or someone in your family??? Alright Union county,Knox county,Grainger county and everyone else in East Tennessee we need to step up and help this mom and son finish the dream that Les had started!! He was always there for you no matter what!! Even when he lost both legs he always kept going, doing the things others might have thought a man in his situation couldn't do. He was the best friend me and my mom ever had!!! PLEASE everyone tell your friends, family and businesses about this family.Whether it is money for supplies, time out of your life for work, or just telling someone will help.We are the VOLUNTEERS after all!!!!

I am very sorry for the situation you face. I wish you the best. He should have had life insurance to take care of this.

I have known Les and Trish for a while now and never have I met a man more willing and determined to help others in need. Les was a great person very strong willed anytime my family needed something he was there, no questions asked. I pray for strength for Trish and Cody to get through the days without Les. He was my dads best friend and unfortunately held him in his arms the day les died. My father and another good friend are helping get the house build but with him being disabled himself its very hard. Life is not the same without Les around and never will be. I greatly appreciate the help anyone gives for this family, they do deserve it. We love them greatly...

Truly thank all of you guys, Les's friends and family and moms friends. I would like nothing more than to see them in this house and out of that unsafe "thing" they are living in now. I know with the grace of God and Les looking down on us that this can be done. You guys have really been there for her and thats what true friends do. I know this is my second comment but I just cant express enough how much this means to us. So again Thank you!
