NEW MARKET, Tenn (WVLT) -- A Jefferson County man has been arraigned on a first degree murder charge in the death of his live-in girlfriend.
Robert A. Fletcher Jr., 52, was arrested yesterday after investigators searched for him in several counties.
Sheriff David Davenport says Fletcher shot and killed Wanda Payne on Saturday at the home the couple shared on Betty Lou Drive in New Market.
davenport says the couple had a long history of domestic problems, and that's what led to this tragedy.
"For whatever reason they felt the need to be with one another, a love-hate relationship, but it escalated finally in the untimely death of the lady," Davenport said.
Fletcher remains jailed on a half a million dollar bond.
He's due in court for a preliminary hearing on January 23rd.
