KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Two contract guards at the high-security Y-12 nuclear weapons plant in Oak Ridge have been found napping in recent years.
One was fired and the other received a 30-day suspension without pay.
The Knoxville News Sentinel posed the question after The Wackenhut Corp. recently lost its job protecting 10 nuclear power plants after guards at a Pennsylvania station were found sleeping on the job.
The two napping guards in Oak Ridge worked for Wackenhut Services Inc., the main security contractor for the government's nuclear weapons and uranium storehouse operations in Oak Ridge.
Wackenhut Services is a U.S. subsidiary of The Wackenhut Corp. with its own board.
Officials told The Associated Press that the two Oak Ridge napping cases occurred within the past four years and were detailed in incident reports that have been kept private.
