MORRISTOWN, Tenn (WVLT) -- A Morristown mother is charged with leaving her child unattended in her vehicle.
Morristown Police Chief Roger Overholt says Maricela Garcia, 18, left her 11 month old child in an unlocked vehicle for approximately 15 minutes while she was shopping.
Police responded and found the child in good condition, however, the outside temperature was 37 degrees according to police.
Garcia's was cited with one count of reckless endangerment. She told police she left the child in the car because the child was sick.
“These type situations expose small children to hazards such as extreme heat or cold, the child becoming ill or coming in contact with a choking hazard," Chief Overholt said. "Our greatest concern, (is) the risk of child abduction.”
