KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- A state senator from East Tennessee wants to ban pit bulls across the state.

Sen. Tommy Kilby has introduced a bill that would make it a misdemeanor to own a pit bull.

Senate Bill 2738 would also define what kind of dog is deemed a pit bull.

Kilby represents Tennessee's 12th district which includes Campbell, Morgan, Rhea, Roane, and Scott counties.

This is stupid. It is not right to ban a person from owning a dog, just because some of the breed is mean. Every breed has a mean dog, doesn't make them all bad. Yes, owners should be responsible if there dog hurts someone. But some one who owns a pit bull, that is a good dog, should not get in trouble for owning it, and should not have to get rid of it just because of what breed it is! This seems unconstitutional to me. And really wrong to me. Are we going to have to give up all Rotties, and German Shepards, and any other dog that could possible be mean?

I totally agree with banning them. The friends of mine which had one for 6 years and raised it to be friendly will now also agree, if it wasn't held by the owner by the leash it would have taken my face off!!! Pit Bulls can NOT be trusted, given a certain circumstance...they will snap in an instant!! In another bad experience while at a b-day party one had grabbed a young childs rear which in turn needed stitches, thankfully again the owner was near by! I am a true animal lover, always have been, sorry but its not until you have that one horrifying experience that you can understand why they are not suitable pets.

As a Pit Bull owner, I have to voive my opnion on this matter. I have a Pit Bull that sleeps with my children every night, and greets every stranger with a tail wag and a kiss. Pit Bulls will act according to however they have been raised, they are not much different than any other breed. A ban is ridiculous. Start punishing bad owners, not the dogs. www.pawsitivepitbulls.com

Two teenage boys raped my 11 year old daughter. Should we ban teenage boys too. Because what one does all of them do. Right

I am sorry but thus is just ridiculous. I am a proud owner of a full blooded pit. She is 10 weeks old. I named her Lyza. I have grown very attached but I will not stand for this. No one is going to come and take my dog away just because of what she is. small dogs can be just a vicious! These people need to take there heads out of the butts and understand what exactly they are trying to do. This is an outrage!

I find it ludicrous to ban any breed of animal just because some people need to have I.Q./psych profiles before they should be allowed to have one. A toy poodle can be vicious if not properly trained and looked after . . . . I mean honestly, good heavens! Have a little common sense and not get swept up in the "popular cause of the day".
