Nashville (WVLT) – THP investigators have located the driver of a tractor trailer they believe hit a trooper’s car Saturday night in McMinn County.

The incident happened around 11:30 PM just after Trooper Charles Melhorn had finished up a traffic stop on I-75 northbound near mile marker 42.

According to dashboard camera video, the tractor trailer side-swiped the cruiser, and did not stop.

Trooper Melhorn was uninjured in the incident.

THP’s Criminal Investigations Division used the dashboard video to determine the tractor trailer belonged to Smithway Motor Express, Inc., a company now owned by Western Express.

Western Express cooperated with investigators and they were able to track down the driver in Ohio.

The driver, whose name has not been released, has five years of driving experience and a valid commercial driver’s license.

No charges have been filed, but the case has been turned over to the District Attorney General in McMinn County and will be taken to the Grand Jury.
