Suspected "Black Tape Bandit" faces nine count indictment

KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) The man suspected of being the "Black Tape Bandit" will not be able to go on any more crime sprees before his trial.

Travis Carver waived his right to a detention hearing during an initial appearance this morning in U.S. District Court. That means he will stay in jail, at least until trial.

Federal prosecutors also read a nine count indictment against Carver, charging him with six bank robberies. The seventh count alleges that he used a gun to rob the Citizens National Bank inside the Food City on Morrell on December 17th, 2007.

The eighth count charges Carver with possession of a firearm by an unlawful user of a controlled substance, and the ninth count alleges he made a false statement while trying to sell the gun, a .380 caliber Cobra semiautomatic pitol, to a Bearden pawn shop.

Carver told the judge today during his hearing, that he has been diagnosed as having post traumatic stress disorder by a doctor. no further details were given.

Trial is set for March 25th.
