Woman chosen as law director for first time in Knoxville's history

Debra C. Poplin has agreed to serve as the Knoxville city law director.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- Another first for a woman in the city of Knoxville.

Debra C. Poplin has agreed to serve as the city law director.

Poplin has been the city's deputy law director since 2001, but she's the first woman to serve as law director in Knoxville's history.

She succeeds current law director Morris Kizer who is leaving the city to return to private practice at the end of this month.

“She just brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this job and we’re very fortunate to have her with the city,” Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam said.
