KNOXVILLE (WVLT) – Knoxville Police say they are still looking for a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting at Knoxville Center Mall Friday evening.
Dispatchers say they received the call from someone in the food court around 6:25 PM who told them there was a shooting victim in a car in the parking lot.
Michael Grider, a reporter for our sister station WNOX, interviewed a mall patron who told him that as he returned from getting his coat in the mall parking lot, he heard what he thought were firecrackers, but what he later learned were gunshots.
The witness told Grider that someone came running inside the mall behind him saying that someone was shot. He told WNOX's Grider he later saw a man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the leg.
The witness told Grider he heard police say that they had recovered multiple gun casings at the scene.
Police say when they arrived on the scene, the victim had already been taken by private vehicle to a local hospital.
investigators identify the victim as only an 18 year old man with a gunshot wound to his leg.
Police also say the suspect and the victim aparently knew each other.
