LOCAL 8 WEATHER ALERT: Slick roads are possible, after an icy mix of freezing rain, sleet, and some snow lingers under foot. Patches of black ice are also possible, so give yourself some extra driving time.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- THP says all lanes of I-40 East and West have been reopened, and are moving smoothly.
Earlier this evening, Westbound traffic was backed up for miles due to downed power lines that were blocking all lanes of the interstate.
Volunteer TV Chief Photographer reported at 1:00 a.m., he was stuck in the backup which stretched for miles. He said he could even see the source of the problem.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, I-40 westbound was closed at Watt Road due to power lines that fell down during strong storms and high winds that came through East Tennessee around 11:00 p.m.
