NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- An apparent drug-related attempted robbery left two people dead and Nashville police were looking for a third man who may have shot one of the men in self-defense.
Police say 22-year-old Brandon Bennett may have been dealing drugs out of his home in Hermitage when Lornes Edward Freeman allegedly shot him during an incident early Wednesday morning.
Detectives say that a witness to the robbery may have shot Freeman in self-defense and fled before police arrived. Police are asking that person, who has not been identified, to come forward.
Both Bennett and Freeman died from gunshot wounds at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Freeman was registered with the Nashville police department as an ex-convict with cocaine, carjacking and arson convictions from 1996 and 1998.
Police said Bennett has had misdemeanor drug convictions and illegal gun possession convictions.
