OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) -- The government's security contractor for Oak Ridge has received a "good" rating on its latest six-month review.
The U.S. Department of Energy graded Wackenhut Services 94 out of 100 points and awarded the company a $933,000 fee for the June-November period protecting the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the federal office building in Oak Ridge and the former K-25 uranium-enrichment site.
Wackenhut was cited for a successful force-on-force training exercise at the national lab and negotiating new collective-bargaining agreements with guards' unions.
It's the smaller of Wackenhut's two Oak Ridge contracts. The other covers the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant, where Wackenhut has more than 500 guards. That review is pending.
