Lifestar sent to accident in Jellico

Jellico (WVLT) - One person is dead and two people are hurt after an accident on Interstate 75 in Jellico.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a Chevy Astrovan was traveling south on Interstate 75 when its right rear tire blew out. The van lost control and struck the median ditch, overturned and came to rest in the median.

The highway patrol says 47-year-old Jimmy L. Smith from Hermitage, PA was killed. Also, 37-year-old Vaughncille L. McCoy from Youngstown, OH and 68-year-old Charles L. McCoy, also from Youngstown, OH, were injured.

The McCoys were flown to UT Medical center. No word on their conditions.

    Lifestar is the closest helicopter. It's either Knoxville or Lexington!

    Just exactly where are these "other helicopters" at? If that was your family member wouldn't you want the closest and fastest way to get to life-saving help? Lifestar has been coming here for years to save lives, some of them I know personally as friends and family. UT hospital if operated by the State, so it is not the property of Knoxville, TN.

    Why was UT Lifestar sent to this accident? There are several other helicopters closer to Jellico. They are making a dangerous habit of this and it is going to bite them! Send the closest helicopter.
