West Tennessee Tornado damage estimates coming in

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The preliminary estimate of residential tornado damage in Macon County is $78 million.

Macon's emergency management director, Keith Scruggs, says it's catastrophic for a county its size. Thirteen people were killed in the county, with another four still in critical condition.

About 430 homes in the county were damaged with more than half uninhabitable.

In Madison County, officials are looking at costs associated with a tornado that tore through Union University in Jackson and killed two in the community of Denmark.

County Mayor Jimmy Harris says $1 million of the general fund may be used to cover cleanup costs until reimbursement comes from the federal government.

In Memphis, utility officials estimate the damage to the Memphis Light, Gas and Water infrastructure to be about $6.5 million.
