CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Chattanooga police say an infant and teenage girl died and another child is in critical condition after the car their mother was driving collided with another vehicle.
Chattanooga Police Department Sgt. Jerri Weary says the car driven by 29-year-old Heather Nicole Markum crashed into a car driven by 30-year-old Sandra Caldwell.
Markum's infant son was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which happened around 4 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Bailey and Willow streets.
Police say Markum's 14-year-old daughter was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Another 6-year-old child is listed in critical condition at T. C. Thompson's Hospital.
Police say Markum tried to make an unprotected turn onto Willow Street when she was hit by Caldwell, who had the green light and right of way.
Markum was not injured in the incident and criminal charges are pending. Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.
