Knoxville Man with stolen Hummer caught while applying for welfare

JONESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- A Knoxville man has been charged with possession of stolen property after he was seen by police driving a Hummer while applying for welfare in southwestern Virginia.

William K. Anderson was being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.

A witness called police after seeing the 51-year-old man park the car with a Michigan license plate at the Lee County Department of Social Services.

Officers set up a surveillance on the vehicle and waited until someone he came out of the office, entered the vehicle and drove away. Officers then initiated a stop and charged the Anderson with possession of stolen property. The sport utility vehicle was reported stolen in Knoxville.
