Embezzlement investigation targets former E. Tenn agent

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (AP) -- A former securities broker in Kingsport is being investigated for allegedly embezzling millions of dollars from customers.

Authorities say former MetLife Financial Services employee Mark E. Salyer forged his customers' signatures to embezzle funds he then used for his own purposes.

MetLife says at least six customers have alleged damages between $100,000 to $501,000 each against Salyer, who worked for the company from October 1993 to Oct. 19, 2007.

Salyer also has been investigated by the Tennessee Securities Department, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the IRS.

The case has been handed to federal authorities.
