Bill would require larger birth dates on driver licenses

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Senate has passed a bill that would require birth dates to be printed in large red numbers on driver licenses.

The bill sponsored by Sen. Tim Burchett, a Knoxville Republican, passed on a 32-0 vote on Monday evening.

Under the bill, birth dates would be printed in the same size as the license number.

Burchett introduced the bill on behalf of an elderly liquor store owner in his district who has a hard time reading the current font for ages.

The companion bill is awaiting a House floor vote.
