GATLINBURG, Tenn (WVLT) -- It's a winter wonderland for many East Tennessee cities, towns, and counties.
But nowhere is there more snow than up on Mt. LeConte. Up on the peak, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park has measured 17
inches of snow. Newfound Gap got a foot, Park Headquarters received 5 inches and Cades Cove got 4 inches. All this data was collected this morning, and rangers say they have no new totals, so totals could be much higher.
Several roads remain closed including Newfound Gap Road (U.S. 441) and Little River Road between Sugarlands VC and the Townsend Wye.
Other roads that are still closed are Foothills Parkway East (near Cosby)
Cherokee Orchard Road, the Cosby Entrance Road, Wears Cove Road
Cataloochee Entrance Road, and Old Rt. 284
Laurel Creek Road between the Townsend Wye and Cades Cove, Cades Cove Loop Road. Foothills Parkway West, Tremont Road, the
Gatlinburg Bypass, and the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Spur remain open.
For up-to-date information on roads, tyou can call 865/436-1200.
