ROCKFORD, Tenn (WVLT) -- Blount County Sheriff's deputies and K-9 crews tracked down a man wanted for fleeing from the scene of a traffic accident.
And they found him hiding almost completely underwater in the Little River.
The crash happened near Rockford Elementary School around noon today, but the driver of the vehicle was gone when deputies arrived. A registration check showed the truck was stolen.
K-9 officers finally found James Earl Jett, of Knoxville, in the waters of the little River which runs behind Rockford Elementary School, according to Blount County Sheriff Jim Berrong.
He refused to come out of the water, and had to be be removed by deputies, Berrong says.
Jett was treated for hypothermia, and is being held for U.S. Marshals on a possible violation of federal probation.
Jett was charged by Blount County Sheriff’s Office with leaving the scene of an accident, and Knox County is taking out a warrant for Jett on the vehicle theft.
Jett is currently on federal parole.
