KNOX COUNTY (WVLT) – Knox County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man who escaped from a work release program in 1975.
John Lewis Jones, 60 of Minnesota Avenue was taken into custody after several weeks of research into determining if he was the right person.
According to the sheriff’s department, he has gone by a number of aliases since walking away from the department of corrections work detail on Riverside Drive 33 years ago.
His rap sheet lists a variety of crimes including trespassing, evading arrest, larceny, drug charges, and homicide.
Ironically, he was tracked down while county juvenile officers searched for his daughter who has several outstanding probation violations.
Perhaps even more ironic is that he was captured on his birthday, February 29th.
Jones is currently being processed in the Knox County Detention Center and will eventually be taken to Brushy Mountain Prison.
