Northeast Tennessee Workers injured after scaffold collapse

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Five workers were injured after a scaffold they were on collapsed at a Johnson City construction site.

Authorities said a steel ceiling joist buckled under the weight on Thursday and the block masons fell 15 feet to the ground along with a concrete block they were laying for an interior wall.

A spokesman with the Johnson City Medical Center said four of the men were admitted to the hospital for their injuries. The Johnson City Press reported one was in critical condition, one was in serious condition and two were stable on Thursday night.

The workers have not been identified.
