Off-duty officer kills 1, injures another in Memphis restaurant

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Police say an off-duty officer has fatally shot one man and injured another at a restaurant and bar in Memphis.

Authorities say the shooting occurred early Friday morning at the Windjammer in east Memphis.

Police say a 42-year-old man was shot in the chest and died at the hospital, and a 22-year-old man was shot in the buttocks. He was in critical condition Friday morning.

The names of those involved have not been released.

Memphis police spokesman Steve Shular says it's against the law for an off-duty officer to carry a gun into a bar. But he says deputies are allowed to carry their weapons elsewhere while off-duty.
