LOCAL 8 WEATHER ALERT: Strong to severe storms are possible this afternoon with gusty winds near 40 mph and 1" hail. Localized flooding is also a concern as over an inch of rain is possible in places today.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Parts of the Cumberland Plateau picked up as much as 2 inches of snow overnight.
School openings were delayed by one hour Monday in Pickett and Overton counties in Middle Tennessee.
Snow showers were reported east of Nashville in Smithville, Sparta, Carthage and several other areas as temperatures dipped into the upper 20s and low 30s.
The snow should melt away quickly as temperatures rise to around 50.
