Famed East Tenn. moonshiner released from jail

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Self-proclaimed moonshiner Marvin "Popcorn" Sutton is free on illegal liquor and gun possession charges.

The 61-year-old Parrottsville author of the book "Me and My Likker" posted a $20,000 bond and waived a preliminary hearing Friday in federal court in Greeneville.

Sutton will be back in court next week and is expected to plead guilty to two counts -- felony possession of a gun and moonshining. Terms of the plea deal have yet to be disclosed.

Meantime, Sutton must wear an electronic monitoring bracelet, submit to drug testing, avoid drinking alcohol and allow searches of his home and property at any time by federal authorities.
