MORRISTOWN, HAMBLEN COUNTY (WVLT) – A man held police at bay for several hours Friday night, before finally surrendering to authorities early Saturday morning.

According to Morristown Police, the standoff began just before 5:30 PM while they were assisting Grainger County in serving Jason Seal, 26 with a felony warrant for aggravated burglary, evading arrest and reckless endangerment.

When they arrived at Seal’s home on Clancy Avenue, there were several people outside the home who told officers that their suspect was inside.

Police removed three people from inside the home, but were told that Seal was in the basement with at least one rifle or shotgun.

Officers then called Morristown’s Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Unit to the scene along with their Explosive Ordnance Device Unit.

After negotiators tried for several hours to get in contact with Seal, the explosive ordnance robot was sent into the residence where it discovered several ingredients used to make methamphetamine.

Special response team officers entered the home again around 11:45 PM, and took Seal into custody 20 minutes later without incident.

Several weapons were recovered from the scene, and the suspect was taken back to Grainger County where he was booked

Morristown Police plan to file their own charges against Seal.
