KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A concert promoter has canceled the planned Gridiron Bash at the University of Tennessee because school officials were concerned the participation of football players would violate NCAA rules.
New York-based MSL Sports and Entertainment announced the cancellation Saturday. It also has canceled Gridiron Bash events planned at 15 other schools.
The Knoxville event was scheduled for the night before UT's Orange and White Game. It was going to feature a concert by Montgomery Gentry and Taylor Swift and a pep rally with the UT band, cheerleaders and football team.
School officials worried the pep rally would violate NCAA rules prohibiting special benefits for student-athletes. Several schools had already told organizers that their student-athletes could not participate in the events.
