KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The nearly-80-year-old downtown YMCA facility has spent the last several months going through extensive renovations and is now ready to showcase some exciting new features.
The remodel includes a wellness center, a new gymnasium, an Olympic-sized swimming pool and a new board room, all there for downtown dwellers.
YMCA of East Tennessee CEO Jim Dickson says, "What people probably don't realize is there's an awful lot of people that live downtown, work downtown, and that's family members that need an outlet to stay healthy and active, and with today's inactivity of people leading to more obesity, we believe that we have a vital role to play to keep them active."
YMCA has been in Knoxville for 154 years.
There are also 13 new condos built above the downtown facility.
