KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Submitted) -- Robert Holub, provost for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will be leaving the university to become chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Holub will transition to his new role this summer. He joined UT in 2006 and has had a significant impact on the teaching and learning environment. Interim Chancellor Jan Simek will name an interim provost in the next few weeks. The University of Massachusetts Amherst announced Holub's appointment today.
"We regret that the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will be losing an academic leader of his caliber, but we all wish him the very best in his new endeavor," said Simek. "His leadership has helped to improve retention and student engagement and develop new approaches for improving diversity, student access and student success."
Simek added that UT has benefited from Holub's vision and that his efforts will continue to have an impact on the quality of teaching, research and service.
Holub oversaw all of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, academic operations that include eight colleges, graduate programs, enrollment services and libraries. He also worked with others to enhance the Ready for the World global education and cultural awareness initiative.
Prior to joining UT, Holub was dean of the undergraduate division for the College of Letters and Science at UC-Berkeley.
The University of Massachusetts Amherst is the flagship, land-grant and leading research campus of the University of Massachusetts system, with an enrollment of 25,000 students. Amherst is among five entities that comprise the University of Massachusetts state system.
