NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Nashville songwriter charged in the stabbing death of his roommate -- the father of TV comic Cheri Oteri -- has been released, but a judge ordered him to attend alcohol treatment.
Richard William Fagan was in court Thursday on a criminal homicide charge in the death of 69-year-old Gaetano Thomas Oteri.
Police say the two had been drinking when Fagan cut Oteri on the wrist Saturday night. Fagan left the house and was later arrested on a DUI charge.
Oteri was found dead the next day of what authorities described as a "significant laceration."
Judge Dianne Turner ordered Fagan to go to a drug-alcohol treatment center and set the 61-year-old songwriter's bond at $20,000.
Fagan co-wrote hits for singer John Michael Montgomery.
