KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The University of Tennessee has withdrawn it's beer permit request for Thompson-Boling Arena, according to UT Athletics spokesperson Tiffany Carpenter.

Carpenter tells VolunteerTV that the university plans to study the practices of other universities before possibly reapplying for a beer permit in the future.

UT's Vice Chancellor for Communications Tom Milligan says, "Chancellor Simek is planning to meet and discuss this issue with faculty and others from campus, including safety and student affairs personnel, and from those discussions develop next steps. At this point, we will not be presenting at the upcoming meeting, but could bring the idea back in the future."

I'm 62 and have been drinking off and on since being 15. To sell beer at the college events would be idiotic. There is enough without encouraging it to go on there.
