Home Federal Bank robbery suspect arrested in West Knoxville

UPDATE 5/23/08 4:05 p.m.:

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The FBI says Michael Wayne Williams, 45, was picked up at the Super 8 Motel on Papermill Drive around 3:00 p.m. Friday.

FBI Special Agent James Van Pelt says Williams faces federal robbery charges after allegedly using a note to demand money from a teller.

Williams reportedly got away in a Green Pontiac GrandAm, and witnesses say there were two other people inside.

The FBI says the investigation is ongoing at this time.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Home Federal Bank branch on Merchants Drive was robbed around 12:45 p.m. Friday.

Dispatchers say a white man walked into the bank at 601 Merchants Drive with a note demanding money.

After the heist, he went around to the back of the bank. Witnesses tell police he got into a green Pontiac GrandAm with two other people inside.

The robber is described as a thin white man with short hair. Dispatchers say witnesses describe the bandit as "dirty."

Early reports from the scene indicate that the car may have a partial tag number of 4-6-5.
