KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- A young couple was the target of gunfire early Saturday morning in East Knoxville.

It happened just before 5:00 AM.

According to police, someone used an assault rifle to fire 14 rounds at John Travis Gibson, 23 while he was with his girlfriend outside Vic's Place on Holston Drive. Gibson was struck once, in his right hip. Four more rounds were found in the SUV and the rest were located in the parking lot of Vic's and a nearby branch of the Knox County Library.

Gibson's girlfriend drove him to Baptist Hospital where he remained Saturday evening with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said the couple has not yet told them who fired the shots. If you have any information, please call the Knoxville Police tip line at (865)215-7212.
