POLICE: East Tennessee newlyweds' deaths were murder-suicide

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Greene County authorities say the shooting deaths of a newlywed couple were a murder-suicide.

Sheriff Steve Burns says investigators believe 45-year-old Roger Gosnell lay in wait near Greeneville for his wife, 41-year-old Sherry Gosnell, to return. Then he fatally shot her with a handgun and killed himself.

The deaths occurred Saturday in northern Greene County.

Burns says the couple had recently separated after being married for only a couple of months.

The man waited for his wife outside her mother's home, where she had been living.
