KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Construction on a new transit center will begin this week on the corner of Church Avenue and Hall of Fame Drive, after Monday's groundbreaking ceremony.
The 108,000 square foot facility will have a bus platform across James White Parkway and will be the heart of the KAT system.
KAT estimates about 3.6 million riders currently use the system annually.
City officials say the new station will improve on the existing one, which is located in front of the City County Building on Main Street.
