ACLU unveils big expansion plans, including Tennessee

NEW YORK (AP) -- The American Civil Liberties Union in Tennessee is in line for expansion.

The ACLU has announced by far the largest national fund-raising campaign in its 88-year history, with a goal of raising $335 million.

The group is eying a dramatic expansion of its work on social justice issues in relatively conservative states.

Targets for expansion include Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico and Tennessee.

About $258 million already has been raised through behind-the-scenes solicitations over the past year.
