Police looking for arsonists who set portable toilets ablaze in M. Tennessee

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities in Cookeville are investigating nearly a half-dozen fires that have destroyed portable toilets at construction sites.

Fire Chief John Kendrick said the fires might be funny to some, but arson is a serious crime.

Among several cases is one early Sunday that destroyed one of the plastic and fiberglass toilets at a church construction site.

Kendrick said the units burn hot and fast.

He said a brick wall kept the fire on Sunday from spreading and seriously damaging the building under construction.

The chief thinks five recent toilet fires may the work of the same vandals who think it's cute to torch the toilets.
