Volunteer firefighter killed in Cocke Co. crash

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- At least one person was killed in a when two tractor-trailers collided on I-40 near the park entrance in Cocke Co., according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. A THP spokesperson added that a second person might have died as well.

The wreck occurred around 6:00 a.m. and blocked one lane of westbound traffic. Authorities were diverting westbound vehicles to avoid backups. TDOT expects to have the scene cleared by 2:00 p.m.

Cosby Volunteer Fire Chief Chris Gregg identified the man who died as Clayton Ball, a lifetime member of his department. Gregg said he had just worked with Ball the night before the crash.

He added that the fire department is working to help Ball's family.
